The White Silence

Antarctica · The White Silence

16 days · 12 – 16 travellers · One departure each, December · January

The Essence

Cross the Drake on a hundred-passenger expedition ship, and lock your phone in the safe for ten days.

About this Journey

We charter only hundred-passenger expedition ships — twice the landings of the large vessels, and a window table always free. The expedition leader will know every name aboard.

The Rhythm

The ship is never over-scheduled: two landings a day, then the library, the observation lounge, and long spells of staring at ice.

The Journey

Chapters of the Journey

Days 1 – 3

Buenos Aires · Overture

Walks through Recoleta, one evening of tango, and the time zone gently settled — the southern summer first, before the far south.

Days 4 – 6

Ushuaia · The Drake Passage

You board at the southernmost city on earth. The passage takes two days — it is the price of admission, and the rite. The ship’s doctor keeps the best remedies on hand.

Days 7 – 13

The Peninsula · Seven Days

Twice daily by Zodiac: penguin colonies, calving glacier faces, a whaling station sealed in ice. One evening the ship cuts her engines, and everyone listens to Antarctica for ten minutes.

Days 14 – 16

The Return · Aftertaste

The Drake is kinder going home. The team gives one last talk, and you receive a postcard hand-stamped in Antarctica — addressed to yourself, three months from now.
